# 950 Damar Resin Crystals ( graded )

Damar Resin is a natural tree resin derived from the viscous sap of the Southeast Asian damar pine. The tree sap is collected and by air drying separated into the volatile turpentine and the solid damar resin. It is used to make various traditional painting preparations, such as varnish and medium.

Eco-House offers this fine raw material imported from Indonesia for artists who want to prepare their own formula. Since damar is a natural raw material, it contains some impurities, which have to be strained out after the resin has been dissolved. For this process, use ECO-HOUSE # 915 Natural Orange Terpene Solvent.

# 952 Damar (Picture) Varnish

Eco-House Damar Varnish is made of high-quality damar resin from Indonesia and #115 Extra Mild Citrus Thinner in an approx. ratio of 1 : 1 with a small amount of linseed standoil for added elasticity of the varnish coat. Dry to touch within 12 - 24 hrs.

Damar Varnish can be used as a final picture varnish over well-dried oil paintings (after 6-12 months) or as an ingredient to your own medium formula. 

Damar Varnish provides a semi-gloss protective finish coat.

For reduced coat thickness add Eco-House # 915 Natural Orange Terpene Solvent or in small quantity # 115 Extra Mild Citrus Thinner.

# 955 Damar Painting Medium - Heavy

This ( almost ) traditional resin-oil painting medium contains damar resin and linseed standoil as binders. The main difference from the traditional 1:1:1 formula is the use of the mild Eco-House solvent system instead of turpentine and the addition of lead-free driers (cobalt-zirconium-calcium octoates), which reduce the drying time substantially.

This medium has a rather heavy consistency resulting in a rich glaze finish, if used undiluted. To obtain a " leaner " medium and a lower viscosity add Eco-House # 915 Natural Orange Terpene Solvent in any quantity as needed.

Damar resin adds brilliance and luminosity to colours and mechanical hardness to the paint coat.

Linseed standoil adds elasticity and moisture resistance to the paint coat. It improves flow and leveling of paints. It has less tendency to yellow than plain linseed oil.
